Weight Loss Goal: Minor Setback

So, I began 2 weeks ago trying to lose weight using WeightWatchers they have a great online program that helps you to track weight loss, track your daily points values, and tips and hints on how to lose weight and more importantly keep it off. I have already begun to see results even after just 2 weeks, this is probably the best thing to happen to me in a long time.

Unfortunately I fractured a rib while playing football on christmas day with my family. It still hurts a lot and it will take 4-6 weeks to fully heal. I can't really do to much strenuous exercise, just in case I re-injure myself. Luckily I at least can walk, so I will be doing at least 10 mins a day on the treadmill, so to at least keep moving.

I weigh in every Tuesday to check my weight loss progress, now that the holidays are over it will be a lot easier to try to lose the weight, less temptation and not so heavy foods will help. Here are some other ways I have found are working to help me lose weight.

1) Taking lunch to work. Remember when you were a kid and your mom would pack a lunch for you? Well the same idea applies here but I take it a step further. I don't just bring lunch with me to work, I bring breakfast, lunch and a few snacks. I plan these out everyday so I know exactly how much I am eating and am not tempted by other foods or offers to lunch. There is an added bonus, taking your lunch to work saves you money. I haven't done the exact calculation but bringing your lunch to work has saved me an average of $50-$75 a week, and in this economy every little bit counts.

2) Cutting out soda. I admit that I am a soda junkie. There was a time I could sit down to a meal and consume an entire 2 liter bottle of coke by myself. This was probably the biggest cause of weight gain. So I had to find alternatives. Some people would say just drink water. While increasing water intake is an important part of any change in eating habit, there is something so good about that bubbly concoction of sugar water that tastes really good. If you're like me and just can't get away from a 12 oz. can of coke (I try to limit this but it's just so good) there are some alternatives. For me it's the carbonation that I like so instead of soda I have changed to Seltzer water or Fresca and both are 0 points values for you weightwatchers followers. Check out this great message board thread from some other weightwatchers users for alternatives to soda.

3) Exercise. This is clearly the most obvious one. Ya it may seem like common knowledge but the best way to lose weight is to get up off your rear end and take even just a 10 minute walk. WeightWatchers lets you track your exercise with what they call Activity Points. The target number of activity points for each person varies depending on their current weight, but Im striving for 8-10 points a week until my rib heals.

In words of the immortal Porky Pig...That's all folks

New Year, New Game Plan - Resolutions

Wow, it's been a very long time since I blogged here. Mostly because I haven't had much to say. Well no more, in this new year I will be more active on here. So, here are my new year's resolutions and yes you can have more than one:

1) Lose weight: I have gained a fair amount of weight over the years and have procrastinated to try and lose, but no more. I have joined weightwatchers and so far results are good. I actually started 2 weeks ago. Starting weight was 236 pounds and I am now at 233.6, my goal weight is 160. A huge goal I know, but I can get it done. (Will post more about this in the future.)

2) The writing has been put on hold..no idea where that is going will keep you posted. But I think I'm going to start doing that again soon.

3) Everybody always says they want to make more money in the new year, but I think my resolution is to save money so I have more of it. (Doing a saving money post real soon, keep a lookout for it)
