Another Goal: New Blog

So I really am enjoying blogging in this way. This is my first personal blog and I'm actually having fun keeping everyone up-to-date on my goals and challenges. A friend of my inspired me to write another blog. This one I am starting to really let loose, and I just started it.

It's called NYC SUBWAY RANT basically it's a blog about stuff I see on the subway and things that people do on the subway that really annoy me. My friend also had an idea of writing a book about proper subway etiquette, I'm taking it a bit more main stream and teaching proper commuting behavior right on my new blog. I am also being kind, and updating my page with weekend service advisories if anyone wants a quick reference. (I would be insane to try and give a daily service advisory update, I wouldn't get anything else accomplished and the last thing I need is further distraction from my goals.)

New Goal Accomplished: T-Mobile G1 Received

So as soon as I heard about the T-mobile G1 I went and pre-ordered it. I was looking for a new phone anyway so why not get this one, before everyone else. I actually received the phone on Monday but because I wasn't home, I didn't get to play with it till this evening.

It has some really good features like access to Gmail. I heard a few complaints about not being able to use Google Reader but I was able to access Reader from the browser. The phone has a music player and the sound quality is pretty good. I'll keep you posted as I discover more about my new phone.

Adjusting the Plan...Time to stop Procrastinating

So, I have still yet to finish any part of the short stories I started. I really do want to get deep into my writing, but right now there is just too much going on and way to many thoughts swimming in my head so here is my new plan to not procrastinate anymore:

Step 1: Assign myself a weekly writing goal.
I figure if I can make a point of scheduling myself to write say, a page a week then I will at least have gotten that far in my writing. So for this week my goal is to finish 1 page by Saturday.

Step 2: Assign myself a weekly photography goal
I'm including photography into these steps because I want to get started as soon as possible. My goal here is to take 3 photos by Saturday.

This is as far as I am going to go for right now.

Never Got To It

This weekend proves exactly why I am a procrastinator. Needless to say I was at my gf's/ex-gf/friends house (yeah it's a little complicated), she went away on vacation and I volunteered to watch over her pitbull, Pepper.

I didn't have my camera or laptop with me so I couldn't work on anything. Instead I sat around and played Wii.

I'm going to be there the rest of the week so I doubt I will get to any writing until next weekend. Hopefully Ill have a first draft on my first short story by then.

Why Is It So Hard to Choose a Name?

So I just finished writing the first page of my first short story. As I am writing I'm realizing that it is really hard to find engaging and unique names. I don't know how writers like Tolkien did it. I mean not only was he able to come up with names like Legolas or Gimli..but he was able to create a whole different language. Not just one language but several. It seems almost impossible, for now I am going to use names from other stories I have read and eventually go back and change them.

Even my titles sound droll. Maybe I'm just being overly critical of myself, perhaps after I finish this draft I'll put a Poll up and you readers can vote on names of things (Note to self: Self - Create a poll)

Taking a Moment Away from Work

So I am at work and I can't seem to get my mind off the short stories I want to write. Last night I jotted down my ideas and began a rough sketch of what I want to write. Today I had some more ideas but I'm sure I will end up forgetting them. I hope to have at least an excerpt to share some time this weekend.

My photography project is also in the works. I am going to use a fairly cheap camera to start off with. I'm not really looking for quality right now. I want to build from the ground up, and as I get better images and find better subjects for photographing I will buy a better camera and grow my "talent"

Ok back to work

In the Beginning...

I have been planning to launch this blog for months (hence goal procrastinator) and something seemed to just overtake me and I had to get my thoughts out.

So here it goes:

Goal 1:
As some of the people who know me well enough could tell you, I love the world of fantasy and science fiction. I have been a JRR Tolkien fan for a long time, even before the Lord of the Rings movies. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to venture on my own quest and write my own stories. I am in the midst of creating a collection of short stories that I am hoping to share with you all as I get to them.

Goal 2:
I have also been interested in photography, but never had the opportunity to really explore my desire. To start, I think I need to figure out what types of things I want to photograph. I'm interested in nature and was always intrigues by those National Geographic photographers.

I have other goals in mind but think I will get to those at another time.
